Leif's Bastille Crack Page
When we climbed the Windtower we looked over at the Famous Crack and
took this picture. A couple weeks after the Windtower climb, we climbed
the Bastille Crack. This one made my Papa very nervous. It was our first
"real" hard multipitch climb and I never climbed a crack before. When my
Papa put me on the Crack, I did not know what to do but after a little help
from my Papa, I understood to lean back and climb. I think the best part of
this climb was chasing the pigeons in the crack. Since I am small, I could get
really far into the crack and about 1 foot away from the pigeons. My Papa
settled down after he saw I was having fun.
This is the second pitch and my Papa is starting to settle down.
I finally got it on the second pitch and needed no help on. We
thought the climb was over since the rest was 5.4 but we where
in for a surprise. It was 5.5 ish but when you are 36 inches tall, it
becomes 5.13. My Papa had to push my butt up on some parts of
this section.
This is me at the 3rd pitch anchor and I am eating skittles. I felt
pretty special to climb such a rock.
This is me at the top of the Bastille and if you saw my face, I
was tired. It has been a while since I climbed the Bastille (6
months or more) and I would like to do it again and get it on
film. My Papa wants to film me because he thinks it is  will be
cool when I am 9 or 10, fat and out of shape, I could look at the
video and say "I did that when I was five". Hmmm, I could also
use the video to show the police possible child abuse!!!
